Solution to CEED Problem using Classical Approach of Lagrange’s and PSO Algorithms

In this paper, the Classical Lagrange’s method has been proposed to find the optimal solution for Combined Economic and Emission Dispatch (CEED) problems in comparison with Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) based algorithm. The ultimate aim in the CEED problem is that scheduling of generators should operate with both minimum fuel costs and emission levels, simultaneously, while meeting the load demand and operational constraints. The problem of finding optimal solution for CEED problem is formulated as a multi-objective problem by considering the fuel cost and emission objectives of generating units and using price penalty factors a multi-objective problem is converted into a single objective function. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is tested on IEEE 30-bus system with various price penalty factors and is compared with particle swarm optimization method. The results presented show the superiority of the proposed method over PSO algorithm for this problem.
